
MANILA — A total of 218 Filipino nurses and certified careworker candidates have completed their six-month preparatory Japanese language training in the Philippines under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA), bringing them one step closer to their deployment in Japan’s hospitals and caregiving institutions.
The ceremony was also graced by Assistant Secretary Levinson C. Alcantara of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), who delivered a message of support to the candidates. Remarks were also delivered by Mr. SUZUKI Ben of the Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM); Mr. Josef Carlo Orillo of the Nihongo Center Foundation, Inc. (NCF); Mr. KATAOKA Yoshikazu of the Japan International Corporation of Welfare Services (JICWELS); and candidate representatives Ms. Reinarose N. Guina and Ms. Wenna Mae B. Vallejo.
In his remarks, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya encouraged the candidates to keep building on what they have learned, as Japanese language ability is an essential component for a successful future in Japan.
The six-month PJLT was conducted by the Japan Foundation, Manila and the Nihongo Center Foundation, Inc. A total of 218 candidates – 19 nurses and 199 careworkers – successfully completed the training. Upon arrival in Japan, the candidates will undergo an additional six (6) months of more intensive Japanese language training before beginning their assignments in hospitals and caregiving facilities across the country.
