Group asks MOVE IT operations cut review

With major road repairs expected to further worsen traffic in urban areas, the Motorcycle Taxi Community Alliance of the Philippines is urging the government to reconsider an order slashing the operations of MOVE IT. 

The alliance warns that it could not only displace thousands of riders but also reduce much-needed transport options for commuters.

In an appeal filed with the Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (TWG), the alliance said the decision to cut MOVE IT’s rider cap in Metro Manila from over 14,000 to just 6,836 — and to halt operations entirely in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro — threatens to upend the livelihoods of some 14,000 rider-partners and undermine commuter mobility.

“We respectfully request a reconsideration of the said order, which would result in the loss of livelihood for approximately 14,000 riders across the country,” Alliance chairperson Romeo Maglunsod, who submitted the appeal at the LTFRB headquarters, said.

MOVE IT previously warned that the directive could affect over 50,000 people, based on average household sizes, and severely limit fast and affordable commuting options in areas already grappling with congestion.
