Vietnamese fake doctors collared

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported Wednesday the arrest of two Vietnamese nationals in Makati City for allegedly practicing medicine without the required licenses and permits.
CIDG director Nicolas Torre III said in a statement that the two individuals, identified as “Doc Ana” and “Le Thi,” were apprehended on 10 May while performing a lip augmentation procedure at Vera Beauty Clinic in Makati Tower 2, Yakal Street.
Authorities said they did not possess the necessary license.
The suspects allegedly posed as medical doctors and performed aesthetic and medical procedures such as lip fillers and ambulatory surgery, and prescribed medications without licenses from the Professional Regulation Commission and the Department of Health.
“The illegal practice of medicine poses a serious threat to public health and the life of every patient,” Torre said, adding that the foreigners will be charged with violating Republic Act 2382, also known as the Medical Act of 1959.
He also urged the public to report any illegal activities in their communities, assuring that the CIDG will work to prevent crimes and potential serious health issues.
In a separate incident, the CIDG also reported the arrest of two individuals, including a rapper from the local group Breezy Boys, for allegedly selling illegal firearms in a buy-bust operation in Malabon City.
Torre identified the rapper as Rovi, also known as Slick One. He was arrested with another suspect after allegedly selling a .38-caliber revolver to an undercover police officer in Barangay Tonsuya on 9 May.
The other suspect works as a sticker sign installer.
