President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved a post-election stipend increase for teachers and poll workers, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro announced Wednesday.
In a press briefing with the Malacañang Press Corps, Castro said the president ordered the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to implement the P2,000 increase for teachers and election staff on Friday, 9 May.
The stipend hike aims to recognize the vital role poll workers played in ensuring the smooth conduct of the recent elections.
"This means the honorarium will be P12,000 for electoral board chairpersons, P11,000 for poll clerks and third members, and P8,000 for support staff," she said in Filipino.
A total budget of P7.4 billion has been allocated under the 2025 General Appropriations Act for the compensation of 758,000 poll workers nationwide.
