Akari may be on the brink of yet another coaching change after Tina Salak had been rumored to be taking over from Japanese mentor Takayuki Minowa heading into the Reinforced Conference of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

Multiple sources claim that Salak will be promoted as head coach, making her the Chargers fourth mentor in the past three years.

No official confirmation had been made, but reports have it that Minowa is set to step down from his coaching role as he plans to join his wife — Filipina superstar Jaja Santiago — in Europe, where she inked a fresh contract following her four-year stint in Japan.

If ever, Salak will be handling an Akari squad that is oozing with momentum.

Akari, for one, is coming off its best PVL campaign so far after emerging as runner-up to Creamline in the Reinforced Conference last year and third-place in the recent All-Filipino Conference.

Salak would be a big boost to the Chargers.

Known for her leadership and savvy playmaking during her long stint with the national squad, the 48-year-old Salak served as playing-assistant coach for Cocolife in the defunct Philippine Superliga before returning to her alma mater as head coach of Far Eastern University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

She moved to Akari as assistant coach in January of last year, formally marking her return to the PVL.

She is expected to take over a talented squad featuring Ivy Lacsina, Eli Soyud, Grethcel Soltones, Faith Nisperos, Fifi Sharma and Ced Domingo, who are all capable of leading the squad to the title.

If ever, she is set to succeed other quality coaches like Brazilian Jorge Edson Souza de Brito, Raffy Mosuela and Minowa.
