The family of former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno showed support for Joaquin Domagoso’s candidacy for councilor in Tondo District 1 by joining him onstage during their “miting de avance” last Thursday night held along Lakandula Street, Tondo, Manila.
Dyna Ditan Domagoso, Isko’s wife, expressed her gratitude to the people of Tondo for their continued support. She said that now, another member of their family has decided to enter the race.
“To be honest, none of us, including Joaquin’s five siblings, wanted him to run. He’s still very young at 23,” Domagoso said in Filipino. “But he was persistent. He really wants to follow in his father’s footsteps, from being an actor to entering politics. His father said he’s ready. Maybe he takes after me,” Dyna said, drawing laughter from the crowd who expected her to credit Isko.
“I didn’t win the argument. His father did,” she added. “Isko said he’s ready. I saw how tired and dedicated he was throughout the campaign. Yorme is right. He is ready.”
Joaquin Domagoso, formerly a television and movie actor, is the first among Isko’s children to enter politics. He is making his debut in the Manila political scene.
In his speech, Joaquin said that if elected, he will focus on the needs of Manila’s youth and has lined up programs for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, scholars, and education.
