BALANGA CITY, Bataan — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a 125-lineal-meter flood control structure along the Talisay River in Barangay Talisay, City of Balanga.

In a social media post Wednesday by the Bataan 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO), OIC-District Engineer Roland Rainier Victorino said that the P39.2-million project, funded under the 2024 national budget, is designed to enhance the safety of residents from river overflow and address recurring flood issues in the community.

“During typhoon seasons, heavy rains often cause severe flooding in residential areas near the Talisay River. With the completion of this flood mitigation structure, we can now assure residents that their properties and livelihoods are better protected from the impacts of extreme weather,” Victorino emphasized.

The project also included embankments and retaining walls to hold back floodwaters, spillways and flow systems to manage water levels, and a drainage system along the river to prevent overflow, further enhancing flood protection.

“We also incorporated Disiplina Park — a small community space with basic amenities designed to encourage public use and promote community engagement,” Victorino added.

With these initiatives, the DPWH Bataan 2nd DEO reaffirms its commitment to building resilient infrastructures that safeguard communities, support public welfare and contribute to sustainable growth in the province.
