The Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DoLE-CV) on Tuesday discouraged politicians in joining the Labor Day celebration.
“We are discouraging politicians, we are not inviting them,” said DoLE-7 regional director Atty. Roy Buenafe.
This as the Labor Day commemoration in Cebu begins with a Tripartite Solidarity Walk by 5 a.m. from Plaza Independencia to Robinson’s Galleria-Cebu City.
Thousands of workers, employers and the government sector are expected to join the Solidarity Walk.
Buenafe told media that after Solidarity Walk, there will be Tripartite Bonding breakfast and Eucharistic Celebration followed by the opening of exhibit and commemorative program.
There will be an overseas and local jobs fair.
Buenafe stressed the need to put up safety officers in the workplaces.
He cited as ranking number one on work accidents, the construction industry with 50 accidents in 2024 followed by 18 accidents in the manufacturing sector and 10 in the transportation and storage sector.
There were 104 work accidents reported in 2024.
Buenafe pointed out that these accidents can be attributed to having lack or no safety officers in some companies.
