CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A driver was killed when the front tire of the truck he was driving exploded and rammed three other vehicles along the national highway in Barangay Linao, Alubijid Misamis Oriental Tuesday afternoon.
Police report identified the victim as Wendell de la Pena, a resident of Valencia City in Bukidnon and driver of the 10-wheeler cargo truck.
Investigation showed that the truck which was loaded with container van was cruising the national highway from Laguindingan Airport bound for Cagayan de Oro City when its front tire suddenly exploded causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle hitting at least three other vehicles along the highway.
The impact sent the vehicles, a van, two cars to the road side and caused the truck to careen on its side.
The driver was pinned on the front seat as rescue workers extracted and brought him to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Drivers of the three other vehicles were unhurt, the report said.
