Liverpool could clinch the Premier League title on Sunday if they beat Leicester and Arsenal lose at Ipswich, in a dramatic weekend that could also see the Foxes relegated.
The Reds sit 13 points clear at the top with six games remaining. Two more wins would secure their 20th English top-flight title, drawing them level with Manchester United. A victory over struggling Leicester, coupled with a Tottenham defeat at Anfield next week, could wrap up the title as early as Easter Sunday — especially if second-placed Arsenal falters following their Champions League quarterfinal win over Real Madrid.
Arsenal’s trip to Ipswich may also seal relegation for the hosts, depending on results from West Ham and Wolves.
Meanwhile, the race for Champions League qualification remains tight. Just five points separate third-placed Newcastle from seventh-placed Aston Villa. The two clubs face off this weekend at Villa Park in a key fixture with top-four implications.
Aston Villa, led by manager Unai Emery, are pushing to return to Europe's top competition after their quarterfinal exit from the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. “The more demanding objective we can have is to get again Champions League,” said Emery. “The challenge we have now is for the last six matches we are going to play, try to get Europe and try to get Champions League.”
Villa’s run-in includes difficult matches against direct rivals, including Manchester City and Bournemouth.
Newcastle, riding a five-match winning streak and recent League Cup triumph, climbed to third despite manager Eddie Howe’s absence due to pneumonia.
At the other end of the table, all three promoted teams — Southampton, Leicester, and Ipswich — are in danger of relegation for the second consecutive season. Leicester have collected just four points from their last 17 matches and sit 17 points from safety under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Ipswich, while praised for their style of play, have managed only four league wins all season and remain just three points ahead of Leicester.
