Converge acknowledges the need to address consistency to boost its playoffs bid in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup.
So far, the FiberXers are grappling for a solid run in the season-ending conference after blowing hot and cold in their first four outings.
Sporting an even 2-2 win-loss record tied with defending champion Meralco, Converge will use the Holy Week break to reflect and eventually check its game results trend.
“I think it’s (about) finishing the games,” interim coach Franco Atienza said after the FiberXers mauled Blackwater last Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
He admitted that the team has been finding it difficult to stay consistent especially in the second half, the culprit in Converge’s losses against the Bolts and Magnolia.
“In this game (against the Bossing), we’re able to make a sort of separation in the second quarter but I was worried about the third quarter because that’s our waterloo. It’s just nice that we responded,” Atienza said.
“Hopefully, if we can get something out of here, it’s finishing stronger.”
Atienza underscored the importance of grabbing momentum early and sustaining it until the final buzzer.
“We have to start strong or maybe even it up but the second half especially the third and that ending in the fourth quarter, we have to watch it out,” he said.
“We’re now a bit conscious about it. We’ve seen it against Meralco, against Magnolia and even against Phoenix. Phoenix almost got us. So, we’re handling that consciously.”
