Pasig City mayoral candidate Sarah Discaya has vowed to renovate the Pasig Mega Market, transforming it into a modern public market if elected in the upcoming 12 May elections.

“This is where parents’ sweat translates into food for their family’s table. This is where simple dreams meet — from a female vendor hoping for sales to a customer who saves money at the market to put a meal together,” Discaya said.

“But despite its value in our daily lives, the market has long been neglected. Crowded, hot, chaotic — it seems time has forgotten the dignity of these places,” she added.

Discaya emphasized that revitalizing the city’s public market is not just about constructing a building but about respecting every customer, small business owner, and vendor who works hard to make a living.

“In a clean and orderly corridor, a safe walkway, an efficient terminal system, and a disciplined environment — we see leadership that may not always be visible on camera but is felt by your family,” Discaya said.

“Because a modern market isn’t just for commerce — it’s for the dignity of every mother carrying a bayong (woven bag), every senior citizen buying vegetables at dawn, and every child learning to shop alongside their mother,” she added.

Discaya said she also plans to construct an 11-story public hospital equipped with modern facilities to improve the city’s healthcare services.

“A hospital is the first home of a newborn, the last refuge for mothers, fathers and children fighting to survive. It’s where pain is soothed, fears are cried out, and exhaustion — for both patients and frontline workers — is eased,” she said.

“So when you upgrade a public hospital, you’re not just fixing walls or replacing equipment. You’re correcting the system. Raising the standard of care. Restoring dignity to a long-neglected service,” Discaya emphasized.

“Because a hospital with dignity reflects a government with a heart,” she added.

Beyond a modern general hospital, Discaya’s administration also plans to build a geriatric hospital dedicated exclusively to the city’s senior citizens.

Additionally, Discaya has committed to transforming Pasig into a smart city with streamlined, corruption-free systems.

“With digitized records, there’s no need for fixers or under-the-table deals to process business permits, clearances, or even birth certificates. Everything is online, trackable — leaving no room for cheating or exploitation,” she said.
