Senatorial candidate and Makati Mayor Abby Binay received a glowing endorsement from Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia during the One Cebu Northern Caravan and Proclamation of Candidates held Saturday in Compostela, Cebu.

Garcia called on her fellow Cebuanos to throw their full support behind Binay, highlighting her strong track record as a legislator and as the mayor of the country’s financial center.

“Let us help Abby Binay secure a seat in the Senate of the Republic of the Philippines. Under her leadership, the people of Makati have greatly benefited from her transparent and sincere service,” Garcia said in Cebuano.

Garcia, who once served alongside Binay in the House of Representatives, attested to her effectiveness as a lawmaker, saying she personally witnessed how diligently Binay worked — not only for her Makati constituents but for the country as a whole.

Before being elected mayor, Binay, a lawyer by profession, served three terms (nine years) as Representative of Makati’s 2nd District.

Garcia also praised Binay’s leadership, calling her an inspiration to fellow women leaders. She described Binay as “small but terrible,” a compliment referencing her petite stature but powerful presence and performance.

In response, Binay expressed her gratitude to the Governor and vowed to champion the nationwide replication of Makati’s successful social programs and innovative solutions aimed at improving the quality of life for all Filipinos, including Cebuanos.

“Kung ano po ang naibibigay namin sa Makati, nais kong magawa natin sa buong Pilipinas,” Binay said.

She reiterated her commitment to push for free access to maintenance medicines and improved healthcare services, similar to what is already provided in Makati. She also emphasized the need to strengthen early childhood education by enhancing daycare programs nationwide.

Earlier that day, Binay also received the endorsement of Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado and Poblacion Occidental barangay captain Allary Alegado during her visit to Consolacion, Cebu.

Among Binay’s other legislative priorities are increasing the take-home pay of government and private sector workers through tax exemptions on overtime pay and bonuses.
