Justice Singh named IAWJ president

Before her SC appointment, Singh served as both a trial court and appellate court judge. She graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines and earned her law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh has been unanimously elected president of the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) for the 2025–2027 term.

Her election was announced during the IAWJ’s 17th Biennial Conference held on April 8 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Singh, who joined the Supreme Court in 2022, will now lead the IAWJ’s global network of over 10,400 judges across 143 countries. The organization is committed to promoting gender equality and advancing women’s roles in the judiciary.

Before her SC appointment, Singh served as both a trial court and appellate court judge. She graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines and earned her law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University.

She is also a Hubert Humphrey Fellow and previously worked on judicial reform with the World Bank from 2009 to 2010. Singh currently teaches at both UP College of Law and Ateneo Law School.
