The Archdiocese of Manila on Wednesday released its guide to the Holy Week and Easter Triduum rites for this year.
Prepared by the Manila Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission, the schedule of services and observances is accessible online via a provided link.
“May our communities be nourished and enriched by the solemn and meaningful commemoration of the Paschal Mystery,” the Manila archdiocese said in a Facebook post announcing the release.
Palm Sunday, which commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, marks the beginning of Holy Week.
The Paschal Triduum, or Easter Triduum, is a three-day observance of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It signifies the end of the Lenten season and culminates in the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil.
According to Cotabato Archbishop Emeritus Orlando Cardinal Quevedo, the Paschal Triduum encompasses the celebration of the Last Supper on Holy Thursday, the Passion and Death of Christ on Good Friday and the Resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday.
Quevedo explained that the Paschal Triduum is observed across four days based on the ancient understanding of a day, which was reckoned from sunset to sunset during Jesus’s time.
