BAGUIO CITY — A candidate for Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Lagangilang town, Abra, and a barangay captain were declared dead on arrival in separate hospitals moments after getting into an altercation during a campaign sortie on Monday night.
The fatalities were identified as Manzano Bersalona Agdalpen, the SB candidate, and Lou Salvador Claro, the 57-year-old barangay captain of Barangay Nagtupacan.
The violence occurred at Barangay Nagtupacan, Lagangilang, Abra, at around 6:50 p.m.
According to the Lagangilang Police, Agdalpen was with Team ASENSO candidates when he approached and punched a certain Rommel Apolinar.
Claro rushed to intervene, but Agdalpen continued to engage with Apolinar. Agdalpen pushed Claro at one point, drew his pistol, and fired the barangay captain several times.
Agdalpen was also by an unidentified suspect.
Claro was rushed to Seares Hospital, while Agdalpen was taken to Abra Provincial Hospital.
