Ahead of the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas rally in Antipolo City, Makati Mayor and senatorial candidate Abby Binay secured major endorsements from Rizal Governor Nina Ricci Ynares and former Governor Casimiro “Ito” Ynares.
The endorsement came during a gathering of local mayors, congressmen, board members and barangay chairs on Thursday, just a day before the rally.
Governor Ynares expressed her confidence in Binay’s qualifications, praising her leadership in Makati, noting, “We know Makati is doing great. We trust that what Abby has done in Makati, she can do for the entire Philippines.”
The governor emphasized Binay’s ability to bring the same effective governance to the national stage.
Binay, in turn, reaffirmed her commitment to pushing for legislation that benefits local government units. She stressed the importance of empowering barangays, the basic units of governance, which she believes have long been overlooked.
“We need a voice in the Senate that will give importance to barangays and professionalize them,” said Binay, adding that more focus should be placed on the people working in these units.
The Makati mayor also highlighted her advocacy for disaster risk reduction and the welfare of rescue workers, especially in areas like Rizal province, which is particularly prone to natural disasters.
“In Rizal, one thing I want to push in the Senate is ensuring that all DRRM employees have insurance, including GSIS coverage,” Binay said.
Additionally, Binay received strong backing from key local officials, including Binangonan Mayor Cesar Ynares, president of the League of Municipalities–Rizal Chapter, and Edmun Aquino, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay–Rizal Chapter. Both leaders called on their fellow Rizaleños to work together to ensure Binay’s victory in the upcoming elections.
