A year after its big debut in the Philippines, the Mitsubishi Triton is already making waves — and not just on the road. It recently picked up the Best Design Award in the Standard Pickup Truck category at the 2024-2025 Auto Focus Media’s Choice Awards (AFMCA). That’s quite the feather in its cap, especially considering how crowded and competitive the pickup scene has become.
If you’re not familiar with AFMCA, it’s been around since 2008 and is run by Sunshine TV. Every year, a panel of motoring journalists — folks who drive, test and review these vehicles for a living — vote on the best in each category. So this isn’t a random online poll or a popularity contest; it’s the kind of recognition that actually means something in the car world.
First off, you can’t really miss it. The Triton’s front end is bold and assertive without trying too hard. It’s longer and wider than its predecessor, and that extra size isn’t just for show — it gives the truck a more planted, confident look. The now-iconic Dynamic Shield face, sharp projector headlights and distinctive T-shaped taillights give it a look that’s aggressive but still refined.
The design choices serve a purpose. The athletic sports bar, the muscular wheel arches, the 18-inch alloy wheels — they’re all part of what makes the Triton capable, not just handsome. It’s a truck built to take a beating on rough terrain but still look good pulling up to a weekend hangout spot in the city.
Inside, the upgrades are just as noticeable. While the AFMCA award was focused on design, it’s worth mentioning that Mitsubishi didn’t skimp on creature comforts or safety features either. The Triton is designed to work hard during the week and clean up nicely for a road trip or family drive come the weekend.
“We are truly honored to receive this award, as it reinforces the Mitsubishi Triton’s superior design and versatility,” Ritsu Imaeda, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) president and CEO, said. “This recognition affirms our commitment to delivering vehicles that combine performance, functionality and style.”
With so many pickups competing for attention these days, it’s easy for one to get lost in the mix. But the Triton has managed to stand out, not by being flashy, but by being thoughtfully designed, from the body lines down to the tiniest functional details.
Sure, an award is nice. But what really matters is how the Triton holds up in everyday life — hauling construction gear, chasing sunsets, wading through flooded streets, or just being your reliable weekday partner. And so far, it seems like Mitsubishi’s latest pickup is doing exactly that.
This recognition from AFMCA is a signal that the Triton is doing something right. And if this first year is anything to go by, it looks like Mitsubishi is just getting started.
MMPC looks forward to further strengthening its presence in the Philippine automotive market and continues to deliver products that exceed customer expectations.
