BAGUIO CITY — Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has confirmed receiving a death threat following his exposure of alleged corruption involving the use of the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA) as an election fund.
In an interview with local media on Tuesday, Magalong claimed that certain lawmakers had secretly agreed to alter the bicameral committee report on the National Expenditure Program (NEP) to manipulate funds for the upcoming elections. “They are truly shameless...” he emphasized.
Magalong revealed that he reached out to former National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) chair Allen Capuyan to verify the threat.
Capuyan, a former head of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), confirmed the death threat.
Capuyan is currently under investigation for alleged corruption, including involvement in an anomalous P7-million coffee table book deal and the solicitation of funds from mining companies. He is also facing an administrative case with former NCIP commissioner Gaspar Cayat for falsifying FPIC documents related to cement operations in Pangasinan.
Magalong, a retired Chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, said he is unafraid of the threat, as he is accustomed to facing challenges.
However, he expressed concern for the safety of his family.
Meanwhile, Malacañang Palace has challenged Magalong to provide proof of his claims that the GAA 2025 is being misused for election funding.
