Senator Christopher "Bong" Go on Saturday said former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea has been discharged from a hospital in The Hague, Netherlands.
Go posted a photo of Medialdea on his official Facebook page, announcing that the former executive secretary had been released after several days of confinement.
Go said Medialdea underwent a medical heart procedure.
“Successful ang naging medical heart procedure na ginawa kay Atty. Medialdea, ngunit kailangan muna niyang manatili doon ng anim na linggo dahil hindi pa siya pwedeng bumyahe,” he said.
(The medical heart procedure performed on Atty. Medialdea was successful, but he will need to stay there for six more weeks as he is not yet allowed to travel.)
He also expressed gratitude to Filipinos "who prayed for Medialdea’s health and those who continue praying" for his full recovery.
On 18 March, Medialdea was transported from the Hague Penitentiary Institution on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque earlier said Medialdea was in a wheelchair when the ambulance arrived. It was reported that Medialdea was visiting former President Rodrigo Duterte when his health declined.
Roque said Medialdea’s visit to the ICC facility had been planned.
When asked for a comment, ICC spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah said they had no information regarding the incident.
“I have no information, but in general, we do not comment on private life matters,” Abdallah said.
Medialdea was one of three individuals who accompanied Duterte to The Hague after his arrest on 11 March. He also joined Duterte during a campaign sortie in Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, Go continues to call for prayers for the safety, health, and freedom of former President Duterte, who is now detained in The Hague after being arrested by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
Citing Medialdea’s words, Go said Duterte is currently in a difficult situation, as the former president is not used to being alone.
“Huli niya itong nakausap bago bumaba sa eroplano sa The Hague. Mula noon, wala na silang naging komunikasyon,” he said.
(The last time he spoke with him was before he got off the plane in The Hague. Since then, they have had no communication)
“Ang importante sa ngayon ay dasal at huwag mawalan ng pag-asa,” he added.
(What’s important right now is prayer and not losing hope.)
Go also urged President Duterte’s supporters to remain calm and unite in support of his return to the Philippines.
