Two men were arrested Thursday morning after robbing a taxi in Maypajo, Caloocan.

The suspects were identified as Angelito, 27, and Bryan Dave, 29, both residents of Caloocan City.

Police Major Valmark Funelas, commander of Tuna Substation, said the suspects boarded the taxi around 8:30 a.m. from EDSA-Monumento and asked the driver to take them to the Maypajo area.

The 47-year-old taxi driver, identified as "Nerie," shouted, which immediately caught the attention of two policemen who were patrolling at the time.

“There was a chase, but because of construction, the road became a dead-end, and that's where our officers arrested them,” Funelas said.

Upon the conduct of a body search, police officers were able to recover a combined amount of 10.5 grams of suspected shabu which has a street value price of P 72,600.

“The suspected illegal drugs were spotted in the pockets of our two suspects,” the station commander added.

A pen gun with one live ammunition and a replica of a Glock 18 were also recovered from the accused.

"No cash was stolen from the driver, as it was his first trip of the day before he loaded the suspects into the vehicle."

During the interrogation, Angelito said that he did the crime due to the lack of funds to buy milk for his 7-month-old baby.

Both suspects had been arrested previously on robbery and drug charges; Angelito was released four months ago, while Bryan Dave was released from Malabon on 5 March.

The two suspects will face charges for violations of Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code, Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), the Omnibus Election Code, and Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
