General Santos City — The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), led by Chairperson Leo Tereso Magno, emphasized the importance of public-private sector collaboration and foreign partnerships in accelerating Mindanao’s economic growth during the Mindanao Trade and Investment Forum in Makati City. Themed "Driving Global Partnerships for Sustainable Growth in 2025," the forum positioned Mindanao as a key player in global commerce.
In his keynote address, Magno underscored Mindanao’s readiness for international investments, stating, "Mindanao is not just an opportunity waiting to be discovered — it is a region ready for collaboration." He highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering a competitive investment environment, citing the ongoing “Build, Build More” infrastructure program under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which has already launched P173 billion worth of projects in Mindanao, including the Laguindingan Airport and the Panguil Bay Bridge.
Magno also pointed to efforts in reducing bureaucratic barriers to facilitate smoother investments. US Embassy Commercial Counselor Paul Taylor praised these reforms, emphasizing their role in attracting foreign investors. MinDA continues to work closely with the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Investment and Economic Affairs (OSAPIEA) to further streamline investment processes.
The forum, co-organized by MinDA and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), brought together diplomats, officials, and industry leaders, including New Zealand Ambassador Catherine McIntosh and representatives from Australia, Canada, and the US. Discussions focused on Mindanao’s potential in agriculture, renewable energy, infrastructure, technology, and the halal industry.
PCCI-Mindanao Vice President Elena Haw reaffirmed the business sector’s commitment to regional development, stating, “Our partnership with MinDA is a critical pillar in positioning Mindanao as a key driver of national progress.”
The event concluded with a commitment to address stakeholder concerns, paving the way for future trade missions and global collaborations aimed at unlocking Mindanao’s full economic potential.
