Not even nearly a month-long inactivity could stop Creamline from showing why it is the team to beat and the defending champion in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.
Creamline took out Chery Tiggo in straight sets on Tuesday, 25-10, 27-25, 25-21 at the Philsports Arena, securing its first of the quarterfinal round and moving one step closer to their 17th consecutive semifinals appearance in the PVL.
Adding to the night’s celebration, the win marked a milestone for head coach Sherwin Meneses, who notched his 100th career victory at the helm of Creamline’s think tank.
“We’re thankful for the management’s support. Our goal is always to keep winning,” said the jubilant Meneses.
Alyssa Valdez and Jema Galanza led Creamline’s aggressive start, overwhelming the Crossovers with relentless attacks in the opening set.
Valdez delivered three consecutive points early on, fueling the Cool Smashers’ momentum. Bea de Leon also made her presence felt, unleashing powerful spikes that kept their lead intact.
Chery Tiggo attempted to bounce back in the second set behind Shaya Adorador’s consistent scoring, but Pangs Panaga came up with a crucial block to seal the frame for Creamline.
In the third set, Pauline Gaston and Cess Robles tried to spark a Chery Tiggo comeback, but Creamline’s defense remained steady.
De Leon and the Crossovers’ Seth Rodriguez engaged in a fierce battle at the net, but the Cool Smashers had the final say, closing out the match without giving up a set in a match.
Valdez delivered a stellar performance, finishing with 16 points, all from attacks, earning her the Player of the Game honors.
“We wanted to set the tone for the series, but the job is not done yet,” Valdez said.
“We got Game 1, but we still have to put in the work.”
Tots Carlos added 13 points, while De Leon contributed 11, including five crucial blocks.
For Chery Tiggo, Adorador led the scoring with 10 points, while Gaston and Robles chipped in seven apiece.
Despite the lengthy break before the quarterfinals, Creamline’s coaching staff ensured the team stayed sharp and game-ready.
“Our coaches made sure we wouldn’t get rusty,” shared Valdez.
“Coach Sherwin emphasized that when we get back, we have to work hard.”
The Cool Smashers return to action on Saturday, aiming to secure another win and punch their ticket to the semifinals.
