The response method used by the Philippine government during the Mayon volcano’s volcanic activity in Albay is now being eyed for use in Kanlaon volcano where Alert Level 3 remains hoisted.

Numerous personnel of the Albay Safety and Management Office are expected to fly to Negros Island to share information to bolster the preparation further as Kanlaon continues its unrest.

In a radio interview, Dr. Cedric Daep, Provincial Administrator of Albay, said that they are hoping that their experience in handling the unrest of Mayon volcano will benefit the residents of Negros island.

“We will share the operational procedures of Mayon Volcano during the pre-preparation and response form and recovery,” Daep said.

Last Tuesday, 18 March, the Office of Civil Defense reported two ash emission events occurring at approximately 1:27 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The ashes were observed to have traveled in a southwestward direction.

The Philippine Instititute of Volcanology and Seismology logged nine volcanic earthquakes and a release of 2,969 tonnes of sulfur dioxide, which was also accompanied by a 200-meter volcanic plume.
