AFAB eyes creation of containerized port

FREEPORT AREA OF BATAAN — The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) is eyeing the construction of a containerized port inside this Freeport.

During a meeting with the representatives from the Association of International Shipping Lines (AISL), AFAB officials have shown support for the development of a containerized port by the Mariveles Harbor Corporation.

The discussion was held at the FAB Town Terminal on 12 March, with the agency citing that the containerized port will offer existing and prospective locators “enhanced operational efficiencies and provide a cost-effective logistics solution.”

The planned state-of-the-art containerized port will streamline cargo transport, reduce shipping costs, and strengthen the competitiveness of locators within the freeport.

The AISL, representing major international carriers in the Philippines, plays a key role in shaping industry policies and standards.

The AISL is considered as the spokesman of the container liner trade industry in coordinating with government agencies, port operators, domestic carriers, tug operators, and other related trades and businesses on matters pertaining to the existing international practices in maritime transportation and other activities affecting the shipping industry.

It participates actively In the formulation of policies that impact the operation of foreign vessels in the Philippines.
