The Bureau of Immigration (BI) intelligence officers reported on Thursday afternoon the arrest of a Chinese man who previously went viral after allegedly kicking to death a cat at the Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati.

The arresting authorities identified the culprit as Jiang Shan, a 32-year-old who was apprehended in front of his residence in Brgy. Palanan by BI agents, after being discovered to be overstaying in the country.

BI records show that Jiang arrived in the country as a tourist in May 2023, but his visa has not been extended since September 2023.

Jiang was unable to provide any documents to the arresting agents. He was immediately brought into custody, booked, and transferred to the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, while awaiting deportation proceedings.

BI Commissioner Atty. Joel Anthony Viado warned foreign nationals to respect Philippine laws while in the country.

“Filipinos are known to be very hospitable to our guests,” said Atty. Viado. “But guests should not come to our houses kicking our pets. His cruel action led to the BI conducting checks on his records, and now he’s detained to be deported,” he added.

Jiang went viral for kicking a community cat named "Ken," which was quietly napping on a path. The cat later died from its injuries. According to news reports following the incident, Jiang was arrogant and refused to provide his information to local residents.
