Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna inaugurated on Thursday a six-story school building with 44 air-conditioned classrooms. This is the sixth new school building built under her administration since 2022.
“With air-conditioned classrooms, the 3,225 students and 115 faculty of Emilio Jacinto Elementary School will be protected from the intense heat. Aside from classrooms, there are separate specialized rooms for studying Information & Communications Technology, Science, Technology & Livelihood Education and Home Economics,” Lacuna said.
Lacuna also said the school building was funded by the city’s Special Education Funds, rather than bank loans.
The building was built on a 2,864-square-meter lot. Other facilities include elevators, a library, a canteen, an air-conditioned social hall on the sixth floor and restrooms. An open basketball court with bleacher seats is also included. The project cost is P458,116,746.30.
Lacuna said that when stakeholder donors contribute solar panels, classes will remain uninterrupted even during power outages.
