The Bureau of Customs reported on Friday that the BoC Port of Clark, in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), successfully intercepted 816 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or “shabu,” hidden inside toys.
The confiscated shabu has an estimated street value of P5,548,800.
The shipment, consigned to an individual in Cagayan de Oro City, had arrived from Los Angeles, California.
The operation was triggered by intelligence provided by the PDEA, leading customs officials to inspect 10 toys — one surprise egg toy and nine kinetic sand toys — each containing vacuum-sealed bags with a white crystalline substance.
After chemical testing, the substance was confirmed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, classified as a dangerous drug under RA 9165.
Port of Clark district collector Jairus S. Reyes highlighted the importance of strong cooperation with law enforcement agencies to enhance national security and combat the smuggling of illegal substances.
The operation was carried out with the support of the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group, the National Bureau of Investigation-Pampanga District Office, the Department of Justice, and local officials from Barangay Dau, Mabalacat City.
A Warrant of Seizure and Detention will be issued against the shipment for violating the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and RA 9165.
Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio emphasized the need to strengthen border security, stop illegal trade, and reaffirmed the BoC’s commitment to its tax collection mission while prioritizing the safety and welfare of the Filipino people.
