A new team could be on its way to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) following reports on Sunday that Starhorse Shipping Line will be taking over Terrafirma.
The domestic shipping company finalized a deal over the weekend to get the franchise from the Dyip, which entered the PBA as an expansion team in 2014, that is worth P100 million.
However, this has yet to be finalized by the league as it will have to be approved by two-thirds of the PBA Board of Governors although it pretty much looks like a done deal.
The last time a new franchise came into the PBA was back in 2022 when Converge acquired the franchise of Alaska Milk.
The Dyip had a dismal season in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, finishing last in the 13-team competition with a 1-11 win-loss record.
Should the deal push through, Starhorse will inherit a crew composed of Mark Nonoy, Kevin Ferrer, Stanley Pringle, Paolo Hernandez and Louie Sangalang.
