JOLO, Sulu — The provincial government of Sulu has distributed approximately 1,500 sacks of rice as food assistance to indigent families ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan, which begins on 28 February and runs until 30 March.
Governor Abdusakur M. Tan announced that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., in collaboration with the Sulu Provincial Government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), provided this much-needed rice assistance for the 30-day fasting period.
Tan personally led the rice distribution on Thursday at Barangay Kilometer 3 in Indanan, Sulu, with the presence of the 19 local chief executives, provincial board members, and department heads of the Sulu Provincial Government. His participation ensured that every municipality received its allotted share for its poor constituents.
This initiative is part of Tan’s annual Ramadan program, aimed at supporting residents during the holy month by ensuring access to essential food supplies.
Tan emphasized that the distribution reflects the government’s commitment to serving the people, particularly during Ramadan. He added that the gesture promotes generosity, kindness, and inclusivity as residents prepare for the sacred month.
The 19 local chief executives of Sulu expressed full cooperation in facilitating the rice distribution in their respective towns and pledged to ensure a smooth and organized process.
This initiative underscores the commitment of both the national and provincial governments to addressing the needs of the people, particularly during challenging times.
