More Catholic schools announced the suspension of classes to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on 25 February.
In a statement, the Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Marian-Philippine Schools Network (CICM-PSN) — consisting of the Maryhill School of Theology, Saint Louis College-Cebu, Saint Louis College-San Fernando City, Saint Louis University, Saint Mary's University, and University of Saint Louis — stressed it "has always been resolute in its commitment to the pursuit of a beautiful mission."
"The CICM-PSN reiterates this commitment by ensuring that significant, historical milestone remain indelibly etched in the nation's narrative. This is not only to recognize the people who sacrificed themselves during those events, but to also ensure that our learners of today have a genuine knowledge and understanding of our history in order to know where we truly stand today," it said.
The CICM-PSN said the commitment "is not only to recognize the people who sacrificed themselves during those events, but to also ensure that our learners of today have a genuine knowledge and understanding of our history in order to know where we truly stand today."
It maintained that the EDSA People Power Revolution "is a historical breakthrough for the Philippines," and its essence "should always be recognized, felt, and observed."
The CICM-PSN's announcement came after the University of Santo Tomas, De La Salle Philippines schools, and EDSOR Consortium (Immaculate Conception Academy, La Salle Green Hills, Saint Pedro Poveda College, and Xavier School) said they would honor 25 February "despite Malacañang's exclusion of this historical event."
In Proclamation No. 727, released on 31 October 2024, Malacañang included the EDSA anniversary in the 2025 holiday list but removed its non-working status.
Meanwhile, the Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines Los Baños said they would implement an alternative mode of learning on the said day.
