Conquesto was adrift since 4 a.m. of 17 February, losing contact with his mother boat

Subic Bay Freeport — A fisherman from the town of Subic was rescued west of Calavite Point, Mindoro by a passing cargo vessel on 17 February 2025.
According to a report by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), 35-year-old fisherman and Subic Town resident Michael Conquesto was fishing with his mother boat, FB Anton Char, at the West Philippine Sea when his smaller vessel encountered engine failure.
The PCG stated that Conquesto was stranded and adrift since 4 a.m. of the same date, losing contact with his mother boat.
The PCG Command Center was alerted on the missing boat at 3:30 p.m. through a satellite phone call from a deck officer of MV Sunny Victory. It was then when the MV Sunny Victory, navigating west of Calavite Point en route to Malaysia, spotted the distressed fisherman.
Coast Guard District Palawan deployed an appropriate vessel to facilitate the transfer of Conquesto from the cargo vessel to safety.
Coast Guard District National Capital Region-Central Luzon Operations was tasked to coordinate with the owner/operator of FB Anton Char to inform them of the incident and the condition of Conquesto.
As of press time, the rescued fisherman was reported to have been turned over to his mother boat and was in good condition.
The PCG lauded the rescue of Conquesto by the MV Sunny Victory, citing that the incident highlights the importance of maritime cooperation and the shared commitment to preserving lives at sea.
