Senatorial aspirant Erwin Tulfo said he has not yet received any formal notice from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) regarding the disqualification case filed against him and members of his family.
During the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas’ press conference on Tuesday, Tulfo humorously mentioned that he only learned about the case through his barber.
“Wala pa po akong natatanggap na notice galing sa Commission on Elections…Nalaman ko lang po ‘yon sa barbero ko kahapon at nabasa niya raw sa social media,” he said.
According to Comelec, a disqualification case was filed on Monday against Erwin Tulfo, his brother broadcaster Ben Tulfo, and three other members of the Tulfo family.
The case also involves ACT-CIS Representatives Erwin Tulfo and Jocelyn Pua-Tulfo, Quezon City 2nd District Representative Ralph Wendel Tulfo, and former tourism chief Wanda Tulfo-Teo, who is a nominee for the Turismo party-list.
The petitioner, Virgilio Garcia, argues that their candidacies violate the constitutional prohibition against political dynasties due to their familial ties and simultaneous bids for public office. The Comelec has yet to announce the schedule for hearings regarding the case.
