The Mayor Sara Duterte Alliance (MASADA) announced on Saturday that it would participate in a multisectoral “EDSA Jericho March” to commemorate the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution and pray for divine intervention amid the country’s political and economic challenges.

Benito Ranque, MASADA’s lead governor, told the DAILY TRIBUNE that the EDSA Jericho March is spearheaded by Mamamayan Akap Demokrasya and will include MASADA alongside other civic and religious groups.

The march is intended as a symbolic reenactment of the 1986 EDSA gatherings. “It will be a peaceful prayer march,” he said.

A Jericho March is a form of prayer walk conducted by a group or congregation, seeking divine intervention, protection, or change. In the United States, similar marches have been held to protest abortion, address gang activity, seek protection for leaders or cities, and pray for revival.

Others had been organized around church buildings to ask for blessings, protection from harmful influences, or for other specific causes. These marches are inspired by the biblical story of Joshua’s march on Jericho, as instructed by God.

Ranque said the event aligns with Vice President Sara Duterte’s call for “no street rallies,” allowing volunteers to focus on their daily work despite the impeachment case filed by the House of Representatives in the Senate.

MASADA volunteers were encouraged to focus on social media and to continue their daily tasks to cope with the current economic situation, particularly at the grassroots level.

“The EDSA Jericho March will not be a street rally. Participants will not block traffic, and we have requested a permit from Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte,” he said.

MASADA is urging the Vice President to run for president in the 2028 elections. Organizers believe she could be the Philippines’ equivalent of Golda Meir due to her Jewish ancestry.

The impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte has sealed the breakup of the so-called Marcos-Duterte alliance.

Originally founded as the Mayor Sara Duterte Alliance, MASADA was later renamed the Marcos-Sara Duterte Alliance after Duterte agreed to become the running mate of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the 2022 elections.

“We launched a nationwide campaign for the presidential candidacy of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, but she later decided to run as BBM’s running mate. We set up at least 50 provincial and regional headquarters across the country to campaign for the Marcos-Duterte tandem in the May elections,” Ranque said.
