Former unified world super-bantamweight champion Marlon Tapales and ex-world featherweight king Mark Magsayo led the parade of 11 Filipino fighters who crashed the latest ratings released by the World Boxing Council (WBC).
Tapales came in at No. 2 in the 122-lb class being held by undisputed and pound-for-pound ruler Naoya ‘Monster’ Inoue.
Magsayo, who briefly held the feather crown, also checked in at No. 2, this time in the super-feather ranks of 130 lbs.
Also holding lofty spots are minimumweight Joey Canoy at No. 4 and Jay-R Raquinel at No. 5 in the super-fly division.
Joining Canoy is Vic Saludar at No. 15 while Giemel Magramo is also No. 15 in the super-fly bracket.
Others who made the grade include three-division titleholder Johnriel Casimero at No. 11 at super-bantam, Christian Araneta at No. 8 and Jayson Vayson at No. 9 at light-flyweight.
Vince Paras is No. 11 at flyweight while the undefeated Olympian Charly Suarez is No. 14 joining Magsayo.
Melvin Jerusalem, one of just two reigning Filipino world champions apart from fellow 105-pounder Pedro Taduran, is on top of the minimumweight class.
The WBC, led by its president Mauricio Sulaiman, holds offices in Mexico City.
Listed as one if the members of the powerful ratings committee is Juan Miguel Elorde, grandson of Flash Elorde, the legendary junior-lightweight champion of the 1960s.
