CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A 21-year-old caregiver sought police assistance after her supposed “employer” carted away her cellphone and personal belongings during a meeting near a bank in Barangay Gusa during their initial meeting early Sunday afternoon.
The victim identified only as Mika told police investigators that her supposed employer identified as John from Barangay Bulau posted on his Facebook account that he needed a caregiver to take care of her mother who was hospitalized in a hospital and offered a P100 per hour payment to qualified applicant.
The victim responded and they agreed to meet near a bank for an initial interview and after the meeting she was told to return to report in the same place and told to bring her personal belongings as he will start working in the hospital on the same day.
The suspect then borrowed her cellphone to check her mother.
The suspect returned the cellphone and told her they will meet again so that she will be paid in advance for her one-week job contract.
When they met again in the same place, the victim borrowed the cellphone and took her personal belongings and told her to wait because he will draw money from the ATM on the other side of the bank. The suspect entered the entrance of the building while she waited.
However, the suspect did not return and when she checked the entrance it turn out that it had exited on the other side of the building. That’s the time she realized she was scammed.
Gusa police has referred the case to the intelligence unit for follow up operations.
