SANTIAGO, Ilocos Sur — A new two-story police station will be set up here after a groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday, signaling the start of the construction of a new one.
Mayor Michael Miranda said that “the fund for the construction of the two-story Santiago Municipal Police Station will be coming from the national government while the lot where the new police station will be set up will be provided by the local government of Santiago as our counterpart.”
“The old PNP station building will be demolished and this is also where the new building will be established,” Miranda said.
The old PNP office is part of the municipal hall building constructed more or less than 50 years ago during the time of former mayor the late Rodrigo Miranda, father of incumbent mayor Michael and Vice Mayor Joselito “Boy” Miranda.
The ceremony for the new Santiago police station saw a strong showing of support from the Philippine National Police, with key PNP Officials led by B/Gen. Lou Evangelista, regional director, Col. Darnell Dulnuan, police director. Other guests were Vice Mayor Joselito Miranda, board member Mildred Elaydo who represented congresswoman Kristine Singson-Meehan and other guests.
