The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported on Saturday that an African was apprehended by immigration officers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) upon his arrival.
According to BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, Oscar Ogie Mbang, 52, a Cameroonian national, was arrested after a positive hit on him in the bureau’s computerized derogatory check system.
The record showed that Ogie Mbang was the subject of blacklist and watchlist orders issued by the BI in August 2019 following the filing of a deportation complaint for undesirability over a swindling charge.
“We don’t have any documentation of his departure, and we believe he left the country illegally to avoid being prosecuted for his crime,” Viado stated.
BI Border Control and Intelligence Unit acting chief Ferdinand Tendenilla said Ogie Mbang has been committed to the B Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, where he will stay until his criminal and immigration violation charges are resolved.
Tendenilla added that if found guilty, the African will have to fulfill his judicial term before the BI could deport him and permanently bar him from returning to the country.
