Olivarez College (OC) scored its second straight victory with an 88-77 smashing of Manila Central University (MCU) in the UCAL-PGFlex Linoleum 7th Season on Thursday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
With Hanz Philip Maykong, Hakim Njiasse, Rodel Renon and Jhon Patrick Panello at the forefront of the team’s blistering start, the OC Sea Lions roared to a commanding 29-10 lead which the Parañaque-based school gallantly protected to stay undefeated in the 10-team tournament.
In the second game, University of Batangas improved to 2-1 after downing three-peat seeking Centro Escolar University (CEU), 95-90, thanks to the 25-point effort of Ryan Szhainel Briones.
Four other UB players scored in double figures as the Brahmans repulsed CEU’s mighty comeback after falling behind 31-17 in the first quarter.
The win was a fitting sequel to Olivarez’s 92-75 demolition of Immaculada Concepcion College (ICC) last Monday in the tournament.
Njiasse matched his 21-point and 20-rebound performance the last time as he attacked the paint ferociously apart from dishing off eight assists this time. He had only four in their win over ICC.
Maycong was equally impressive by scattering 16 points while Renon and Panelo chipped in 15 and 10 points, receptively.
The MCU Supremos, who beat UB, 95-90, also in the opener, slipped to 1-1 despite getting 22 points from Dennis Laconsay.
