Mitsubishi Power, a power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), has announced the successful completion of a 1,400 MW gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant EPC project for Hin Kong Power Company Limited, a joint venture between RATCH Group Public Company Limited (RATCH) and Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited (GULF).

Located about 100 kilometers west of Bangkok, the facility features two M701JAC gas turbines. The first unit began commercial operation in March 2024, and the second entered service in January 2025, completing the plant’s full capacity on schedule. Under a 25-year Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA), Mitsubishi Power will provide ongoing maintenance, ensuring high-efficiency power for the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).

“We are proud to celebrate the completion of this critical high-efficiency power plant, which furthers our goal to deliver reliable, sustainable, and efficient energy solutions for Thailand,” said Nitus Voraphonpiput, Chief Executive Officer, RATCH. "We look forward to strengthening collaboration with our partners to drive Thailand’s energy progress."

“The on-schedule completion and smooth operation of the plant underscores strong synergy between GULF, RATCH, and Mitsubishi Power. This project plays a significant role in strengthening Thailand’s energy security and supporting economic growth." added Chaichawin Tantiyankul, Executive Officer, GULF. “We are confident that this partnership will continue to drive innovative and efficient energy solutions.”

Takao Tsukui, Executive Vice President, Mitsubishi Power, Ltd., noted, “This project marks the commercial operation of our tenth M701JAC gas turbine in Thailand, a memorable milestone that we are proud to celebrate together with RATCH and GULF."

Previously, Mitsubishi Power completed a 5,300 MW GTCC plant in Thailand’s Rayong and Chonburi provinces for Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. That project featured eight M701JAC gas turbines, now joined by two more at the Hin Kong plant, bringing the total to 10 units delivered on schedule with over 120,000 cumulative operating hours.

In total, Mitsubishi Power has supplied 22 gas turbines to RATCH and GULF projects, contributing over 14,000 MW of power generation capacity in Thailand. Globally, orders for the JAC gas turbine have surpassed 100 units as of 2024, driven by its combined cycle efficiency of more than 64% and operational flexibility to support grids with growing renewable energy sources.

Mitsubishi Power remains committed to advancing power generation technologies that meet Thailand’s evolving energy needs and support its economic development.
