For over three decades, the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards have celebrated the best of the best in the automotive world. These awards shine a spotlight on vehicles that excel in areas like innovation, design, safety, performance and overall driver satisfaction. Each year, 50 seasoned automotive journalists from the US and Canada put contenders through their paces, narrowing down a competitive list of entries to crown the winners.

On 10 January 2025, during the Detroit Auto Show’s media day, the Honda Civic Hybrid earned the top honor as the 2025 North American Car of the Year, racking up 205 votes. This marks the fourth time the Civic nameplate has taken home a NACTOY award, following wins in 2006, 2016 and 2022. It’s another feather in the cap for Honda’s beloved compact sedan.

John Voelcker, a respected NACTOY juror and contributor to publications like Car and Driver and Green Car Reports, had high praise for the Civic Hybrid:

“The Honda Civic has been winning accolades for 50 years, and the Civic Hybrid takes it to the next level. Honda’s hybrid system is fantastic, delivering fun and fuel efficiency in a package that’s sleeker and more refined than ever. It’s an easy win.”
