The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday revealed that Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro’s name remains on the ballot as a candidate for congressman in the city’s First District.
Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia explained that Teodoro’s name was not removed from the ballot because the Comelec en banc has not yet ruled on his motion for reconsideration regarding the Comelec 1st Division’s decision to disqualify him as a candidate.
Garcia stressed that only a decision by the Comelec en banc with a certificate of finality can remove a candidate’s name from the ballot.
Comelec began printing the ballots on Monday for the upcoming May elections.
Garcia previously said that the Comelec en banc could reverse the division’s decision if Teodoro presents new arguments or evidence in his motion for reconsideration.
“There are many instances where the division can reverse its decision after arguments are presented in the motion for reconsideration,” Garcia said.
Residents of Marikina City have expressed their full support for Teodoro amidst the issue he is facing.
