Malacañang on Friday announced the suspension of government work and classes in all levels in the cities of Manila and Pasay on 13 January “to give way for the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) rally at the Quirino Grandstand."
“In view of the numerous participants expected to travel to and within the Cities of Manila and Pasay, government work and classes shall be suspended,” the Memorandum Circular No. 16, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, read.
However, agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and those performing vital services will remain operational during the said date.
Meanwhile, the suspension of work in private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) earlier announced the closure of roads near Quirino Grandstand for the INC rally.
The INC leadership previously announced plans to hold a rally in support of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s stance against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Marcos earlier said the impeachment moves against the Vice President as it would “tie down” both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Duterte is currently facing three impeachment complaints before the House of Representatives.
