Business competitiveness is not only measured by income and market share. Companies also try to excel in terms of positive contributions to society. Such efforts are recognized by award-giving bodies.
This year, another round of accolades from these organizations await companies with the best corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability practices. The same organizations awarded last year 33 companies and non-government organizations for their impactful environmental, social and governance (ESG) programs. Their ESG programs will serve as a benchmark and inspiration for other businesses to earn their own sustainability awards this year, some of which are as follows.
DoE Sustainable Energy Award
The Department of Energy (DoE) held its first Sustainable Energy Award (SEA) on 12 December. In the second edition of the SEA, energy companies can vie in three award categories: Energy Management in Industries, Renewable Energy (RE) Projects in On-Grid Areas, and Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards.
The first SEA winners were Tagum Water of the Manila Water Philippines Ventures for its Artificial Recharge Technology, a low-energy water extraction process; ACEN of the Ayala Groups for its North Luzon Renewables wind project in Caparispisan, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte and SM Prime Holdings for its widespread use of LED lights, building management systems and insulation in its shopping malls.
