TARLAC CITY, Tarlac — Bishop Roberto Mallari was appointed as the new bishop of the Diocese of Tarlac by his Eminence, Pope Francis.
In an announcement on 31 December 2024, Bishop Mallari will fill in the post left by the late Bishop Enrique Macaraeg who passed away in October 2023.
The City Government of Tarlac warmly welcomed Bishop Mallari, who is a Central Luzon native and is known for his unwavering dedication to the spiritual and social welfare of his community.
“We are thankful for Pope Francis’ choice of Bishop Mallari during this crucial time,” Tarlac City Mayor Cristy Angeles said.
“His compassionate leadership will be invaluable as we honor the legacy of Bishop Macaraeg and support the spiritual needs of our community, especially for the most needy Tarlakenyos,” Angeles continued.
Mallari was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of San Fernando, Pampanga on 17 November 1982. He served as spiritual director at the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary in Pampanga from 1983 to 1987 and from 1989 to 1994.
“As the diocese embarks on this new journey, the City Government is excited about future initiatives that promote faith, compassion, and unity within Tarlac and beyond. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Bishop Mallari as he begins this important chapter of guidance and service,” Angeles furthered.
