Authorities reported that two fire incidents broke out in Malabon City, just minutes after the clock struck midnight.

Reports said that at 12:17 a.m., a first-alarm fire began in a residential area on Don Basilio Street in Barangay Dampalit.

Three firetrucks were immediately sent to respond to the residential fire, and by 12:53 a.m., it was declared fire out by Deputy City Fire Marshal FSINSP Leowen Pereira.

As the firemen continued extinguishing the fire in Barangay Dampalit, another fire incident started in Barangay Flores.

The fire, which occurred in a grocery store along M. Naval Street, was immediately raised to a third alarm by 1:19 a.m.

Local city firetrucks and volunteers from nearby cities like Caloocan, Navotas and Valenzuela also arrived in the area and helped put down the fire.

“Malabon City Fire Station would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who helped in this challenging time: Caloocan, Navotas and Valenzuela Fire Stations, together with the fire volunteers of CAMANAVA, for your swift assistance and hard work,” the BFP-Malabon City post reads.

By 5:58 a.m., it was declared under control, and eventually by 7:47 a.m., it was declared fire out.

There were no recorded casualties, as arson probers are still looking into the source of the fire.

The Bureau of Fire Protection stressed to the public the importance of practicing fire safety measures and immediately calling their office for any fire-related incident.

Despite the fire incidents, Malabon City Police Station Chief P/Col. Jay Baybayan said that the New Year Celebration in Malabon City was “generally peaceful.”

“No firecracker-related injury was reported, and no stray bullet incident occurred. It was generally peaceful during the new year,” he said.

Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office shared that mopping operations are still ongoing and that the affected residents were brought to Malabon Hospital.
