CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Senatorial candidate Luis “Manong Chavit” Singson aims to present a vision of governance that prioritizes efficiency, progress and action when he visits this highly-urbanized Northern Mindanao city on Friday.

Singson’s tenure as Ilocos Sur governor serves as a blueprint for the type of leadership he intends to bring to the national stage. Under his administration, Ilocos Sur underwent a remarkable transformation, becoming a model of efficient governance. He spearheaded infrastructure projects, streamlined government processes and boosted local industries, turning the province into a thriving economic hub.

“What we accomplished in Ilocos Sur is proof that effective governance can drive real progress,” Singson said, who is No. 58 on the Senate ballot. “Cities like Cagayan de Oro have immense potential, and with the right leadership, we can unlock that.”

Singson’s visit comes at a time when Cagayan de Oro is grappling with key issues, including infrastructure development delays, disaster resilience and socio-political shifts. His campaign promises resonate strongly with the city’s current needs, particularly with the planned $100-million expansion of the Mindanao International Container Terminal and efforts to recover from the impact of tropical storm "Sendong."

Drawing parallels from his achievements in Ilocos Sur, Singson emphasized the importance of reducing bureaucratic red tape and accelerating infrastructure development.

“Streamlining government processes is not just a promise; it’s a necessity,” he said. “We did it in Ilocos Sur, and it can be done here, too.”

During his visit, Singson is expected to meet with local leaders, business owners and community members to discuss his platforms and how his proven governance approach aligns with the city’s development goals.
