CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The chairman of the city council committee on trade and commerce proposed on Monday an ordinance that will require telecommunication firms to deploy the so called “Cellular on Wheels” (CoWs) in the city business district to insure on line connectivity on electronic banking during calamities.
George Goking made the proposal after the The National Telecommunications (NTC) and the city government launched an emergency communication response project to keep electronic banking and transactions incase cellular signal breakdown units break down during severe storm and other natural calamities that may hit the city.
“I will file a proposed ordinance to ensure internet connections during calamities,” he said in a radio interview.
Goking said he will propose that the deployment of CoWs will be under the supervision of the office of the city mayor. Earlier NTC northern Mindanao director Ted Buenaventure presented the proposed emergency communication project to the city council and business leaders last Tuesday city council meeting.
Called as Sustainable Trade Operations Response Management and “Cellular on Wheels,” the project aims to provide steady cellular signals in the business centers to enable residents to access their ATM and electronic bank transaction in case of breakdown of signal due to the destruction of cell towers.
