More than half of Senate aspirants submitted their registration forms for their social media accounts to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) two days before its deadline.

Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco on Thursday said that 43 out of 66 Senate hopefuls on the ballot submitted their social media forms to the poll body.

Meanwhile, 174 party-list groups, organizations, and coalitions submitted these requirements, while 7,085 aspirants from local posts already did so.

The poll body has received 7,301 registration forms via Google Forms so far; these exclude private individuals and entities.

There are a total of 3,312 aspirants who submitted hard copies of documents to the Comelec.

Social media account registration is part of the poll body's initiative to regulate digital election campaigning.

The Comelec has set 13 December as the deadline for registration.
