The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved three major transmission projects to enhance the power grid and ensure reliable electricity for consumers.
Based on a document uploaded to the ERC website, one of the key initiatives approved by the power regulator is the Balaoan-Laoag 500-kilovolt (kV) Transmission Line Project, proposed by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
With an investment exceeding P20.65 billion, the project forms part of NGCP’s 2020-2025 capital expenditure plan. It aims to improve grid stability and ensure efficient power delivery for electricity consumers in Luzon.
The approval comes with conditions for cost optimization and compliance with regulatory requirements under the Rules on Transmission Wheeling Rates.

In the Visayas, GT-Energy Corporation (GTEC) secured approval to connect its 11.174-megawatt (MW) Calbayog Bunker C-Fired Diesel Power Plant to the grid via a point-to-point transmission system. This project is expected to boost energy security in the region.
Meanwhile, TrustPower Corporation received provisional authority to link its 15.400-MW Trust Solar facility to the Luzon grid.
The move supports the integration of renewable energy into the power network, aligning with the country’s push for a more sustainable energy mix.
According to the ERC, the projects adhere to the Electric Power Industry Reform Act, which mandates accessible and affordable energy for Filipinos while strengthening the nation’s energy infrastructure.
